KNIGHTS OF THE SOUTHERN CROSS TASMANIA

Who are the Knights of the Southern Cross?:

The Knights of the Southern Cross (KSC) is a National organisation of Catholic laymen banded together under a charter approved by the Catholic Bishops of Australia.

Our history and traditions date back to our origin in 1919 in Sydney when the Knights were founded to improve the economic well-being and standing of Catholics in the community.

Today our charter is much the same although our emphasis is now directed towards instilling and maintaining Christian values throughout Australia.

Branches operate in many Catholic Parishes throughout Tasmania and membership is open to all Catholic men over the age of 18. Membership enquiries are welcomed.

Objects of the Knights of the Southern Cross:

Education and support of Catholic Priests:

Each year in Hobart the Knights conduct the Catholic Dinner to raise funds to assist in nominated community projects. This popular event attracts over 300 participants each year and has been a most successful fund raiser.

Southern Cross Care (Tasmania) Inc.:

A major charitable activity of the Knights is the operation of Southern Cross Care in Tasmania providing aged care services in nursing homes, hostels, independent living units and through home care packages for over 1200 aged Tasmanians.
